Carlos F. Zapata Antigoni, MD, FACG, AGAF

Dr. Carlos F. Zapata Antigoni is a board-certified gastroenterologist dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care for patients with digestive and liver disorders. He completed advanced fellowship training in gastroenterology and therapeutic endoscopy, including ERCP, at The University of Arizona College of Medicine–Phoenix and the Phoenix VA Medical Center, following his internal medicine residency at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. He earned his medical degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru.

Dr. Zapata Antigoni has been caring for patients in Arizona since 2010. He treats a broad range of gastrointestinal conditions, with special focus on gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), colon cancer screening, fatty liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, esophageal disorders, and advanced endoscopic procedures. He performs upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, hemorrhoidal banding, and ERCP procedures.

Drawing from his international training and multicultural background, Dr. Zapata Antigoni prioritizes spending time with each patient to foster trust, understanding, and truly personalized care. He is fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian, helping patients feel comfortable and confident communicating their health concerns.

Dr. Zapata Antigoni is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Phoenix GI Society, and the Arizona Latino Medical Association. In recognition of his leadership and commitment to advancing the field, he was named a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology in 2025 and a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association in 2026—honors reserved for physicians who demonstrate exceptional professional achievement and service.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Zapata Antigoni is an avid mountain biker who enjoys exploring Arizona’s unique landscapes. He is also a fan of NBA basketball and values time with his family, including his golden retriever.
